[Alternative/Indie/Pop] Twin Shadow – To The Top

Twin Shadow
To The Top

One of our absolute favorite bands, the George Lewis Jr. fronted Twin Shadow, are back with their first original piece since concluding a gorgeous concept cover series  “UNDER THE CVRS“, and once again the work oozes an incredible amount of musical prowess while revealing a gorgeous and haunting piece of its songwriter. “To The Top”, like much of their recordings, contain layers of structural significance within every inch of its arrangement. From every note plucked on Lewis’ sprightly guitar to the simple yet complete percussive fills, anthemic claps and soaring background vocals; every piece of the tune serves in an ultimate purpose of taking its listener on an auditory journey to its end goal. Never ones to skimp on deeply emotive song content either, about “To The Top” the  quartet wrote something we think most can identify with: “What is it when you realize that someone isn’t right for you? Or when you find that you do not and can not posses someone entirely? You want someone so bad and it feels like hell. It’s not like the first time, once loved love evolves, and you no longer have as much control, and it frustrates you. I think because of this feeling we find ourselves constantly wanting to reset, like new years resolutions, like dreaming up moments from the past where the ending flips on its head, like true forgiveness…We just want to say ‘wait wait wait, this went too far in the wrong direction, can we try that again.'”

“To The Top” is being given away for free through Twin Shadow’s Soundcloud, and although we’ve been craving another album or EP since 2012’s incredible Confess, this will hold us over for at least a few more weeks. Not to worry either as a recent press release has revealed that a follow-up is currently in the works. Gosh, it’s a good Tuesday.

[Synth Pop] Twin Shadow – Old Love / New Love

Old Love / New Love

What better way to cap off an amazing week of new music than with some Twin Shadow? On his shiny new single, George Lewis Jr. languishes about being caught in the unenviable position of trying to avoid falling back into his old relationship or moving forward onto new horizons. As frustrating as that may sound, there’s nothing to get disappointed about with this amazing tune. “Old Love / New Love” is a reverberant masterpiece with electrifying piano chords, rolling bass, and 80’s pop sensibilities that are guaranteed to get you up on your feet. If you needed any more reasons to purchase GTA:V, this would be the ultimate cherry on top.

Solange – Sleep in the Park (Twin Shadow Remodel ft D’Angelo Lacy)

Last week Solange Knowles debuted her new singles “Losing you” and “Sleep in the Park” on a A-B side single release. Now Beyonce’s eclectic younger sister is back with a remix of her grittier, darker track of “Sleep in the Park”. Remodeled and flipped by smooth new-wave artist Twin Shadow, it’s now an anthem for the clubs. With a dance beat, synths, and D’Angelo Lacy for additional vocals, the infectious, up-tempo head-nodder rework is one that you ninjas are sure to enjoy.

Chad Valley – I Owe You This (feat. Twin Shadow)

As the release date of Chad Valley‘s debut album Young Hunger draws near, the momentum behind the UK artist (whose real name is Hugo Manuel) only increases, especially when he drops tracks like this. “I Owe You This” is a somber, but catchy synth-laden plea, featuring the silky aching vocals of Twin Shadow. Hot on the heels of last week’s “Tell All Your Friends,” Valley continues to prove he’s got a pretty genius grasp of pop songwriting.

Young Hunger comes out October 30th via Cascine Records.

[HOT] Niki & The Dove – DJ, Ease My Mind (Twin Shadow Remix)

As they embark on a tour together (dates here), Twin Shadow has given Niki & The Dove’s “DJ, Ease My Mind” the remixing of a lifetime. Taking the Swedish electropop trio’s bombastic hit and dialling it down a few notches, Twin Shadow gives the song added heartbreak and poignancy, as a slowly strummed guitar and strings replace synths and powerful percussion. Hands down, this is one of the remixes of the year, and will hopefully be massive. Fingers crossed we get to see Niki collaborate with Twin Shadow on stage during what is set to be an incredible tour.

The original version of “DJ, Ease My Mind” is featured on Instinct, out now. Twin Shadow’s latest album, Confess, is also out now.
