[NEW] SBTRKT – New Dorp, New York (feat. Ezra Koenig)

SBTRKT
New Dorp, New York feat. Ezra Koenig

Since the release of his self-titled debut album in 2011, SBTRKT‘s follow-up project has consistently been one of the most anticipated records in music. Today, almost exactly three years later, the acclaimed UK producer finally let loose the first single from the long-awaited project. “New Dorp, New York” departs from the lush synths and drum ‘n bass percussion fans have become accustomed to in favor of a far more avant-garde feel. With some help from Ezra Koenig, of Vampire Weekend, SBTRKT creates a sort of tribal groove continuing his experimentation and combination of sounds. Give this one a spin above and rejoice that SBTRKT’s sophomore effort, Wonder Where We Land, is on the way.

Vampire Weekend
Step (Wintertime Remix) (Feat. Danny Brown, Heems & Despot)

With every new year comes new expectations, but there’s no way we could’ve ever seen this coming. After putting out one of the best albums of 2013, Vampire Weekend are back with a “Wintertime Remix” to their remarkable single, “Step,” bringing along Danny Brown, Heems and Despot for the ride. The beat remains relatively unaltered, yet all three emcees fit in gracefully over the tranquil indie rock ballad, making this one of the best cross genre efforts we’ve heard in quite awhile. One day in, and 2014 already looks like a bright year for music. Check out the stream above, and make it your resolution to grab a free download as well.

Vampire Weekend – Step

Yesterday we brought you Vampire Weekend‘s “Diane Young” — a slightly different twist (though still inventively awesome) on what we’ve come to expect from the New York outfit. Today, we feature another new song called “Step”, which should sound more familiar to the ears of those longtime VW fans, as it does hearken back more to both the Contra and self-titled LPs days. If these two songs are any indication of the rest of their forthcoming album, Modern Vampires Of The City, then we’re in for quite a good collection of forward-thinking music that’s still somewhat grounded in Vampire’s successful tradition. Listen to the track and also peep its official lyric video below.

[Stream] Vampire Weekend – Diane Young

Vampire Weekend
Diane Young

Vampire Weekend will make their triumphant return on May 7th when they release their third album, Modern Vampires Of The City. Though that moment’s still more than a month away, the New York band has revealed one of its new tracks called “Diane Young”. It’s hyper, bouncy, overflowing with this kind of pure power-pop that never seems to settle down or take a breath — and it’s pretty damn good. It’s still very much Vampire Weekend territory, but updated if that makes any sense. It’s more refined, but also more creative. Also, don’t be surprised to hear Mr. Ezra Koenig unleash some “old soul” depth, too! Tune in.

[Mashup Masterminds] The Hood Internet

hoodinternet

Every time the word Mashup Masterminds pops in my head (the few times it does) I can only think of The Hood Internet. The Chicago-based duo specializes in mashups of hip-hop (from the mainstream to the underground) with indie rock…. and they are quite GOOD! The blogophere not only loves them for shining a light into indie music but amount of quality mash ups they put out every week is short of amazing. Their latest wonder is the fusion of M.I.A.’s sharp witty vocals with the calming melow pop tunes of Vampire Weekend. Enjoy!

[New Releases] First 2 Weeks of January 2010

Aside from, hopefully, featuring great songs, we feel like in 2010 we’ve got to step our game up and be on top of the latest releases. What is there to look up to this January? You’ve come to the right place. Here are a couple of new releases we are looking for.

flying-lotus
Flying Lotus is all about exploring the experimental possibilities of other genres. He released a couple of tracks a couple of months back giving Lil Wayne some glitches and dreamy synthesized melodies converting the track into a surreal experience. He’s a well involved artist that produces his own music and always stays current remixing new songs. If you do not know a thing about this guy, listen to a couple of his previous work below. Massage situation came out in 2007 in his Reset EP; Rickshaw is the 7th track in L.A. EP 1 X 3 from 2008; and the last goodie is a remix from another experimental/electronic DJ Nosaj Thing.

Vampire-Weekend-Contra-295x300

Contra is the second album by American indie rock band Vampire Weekend. The release of the album is, according to the band’s website, planned to be January 11, 2010 in the UK, and January 12 in the U.S. Just as their eponymous debut album, Contra is being released on XL Recordings. “Horchata” was released as a free download on October 5, 2009 on the band’s website. I’ve also attached a very tropical tune from Toy Selectah Mex More.

Mancunian Band Delphic will be releasing ‘Acolyte’ on January 11th. Its been reported that the BBC considers it to be one of the big break out bands of 2010. We’ll have to see how it all pans out this year but these guys have definitely become one of our favorites. And a little bonus remix from French DJ 835
