[Hip-Hop] Joey Purp, Vic Mensa & Two Fresh – Still Got It

Joey Purp, Vic Mensa & Two Fresh
Still Got It

After making some waves with their single “Gettin Throwed” early in the summer, Two Fresh have returned with Joey Purp once again to prove that they “Still Got It”, this time bringing Vic Mensa along for the ride. Purp takes the lead on this one, racking up a couple of poignant punchlines while Vic handles the chorus and closes things out with some impressive bars of his own. This latest collaboration comes on the heels of the Nashville based twins’ latest EP, Torch, which is out today via Mad Decent and features additional appearances from Njomza, Curtis Williams and Jace of Two-9. The track is available for free download, but make sure to grab yourself a copy of the EP as well.

Lollapalooza 2015: Our Top Takeaways [Event Review]

Lollapalooza-2015

As with any music festival, after Lollapalooza is over, it always takes us a few days to digest everything and snap back to reality. For locals, the festival serves as a three day escape within our own city. For outsiders, it provides them with a completely unique way to experience Chicago. The magic of Lollapalooza is simply unmatched, and despite a weather scare on the final day, Lollapalooza 2015 turned out to be just as memorable as years past. On the next few pages we’ve broken down some of our lasting impressions from Lolla.

[NEW] Vic Mensa – Codeine Crazy (Icarus Story)

Codeine Crazy (Icarus Story)

Fresh off a killer performance at Pitchfork Music Festival, Vic Mensa has released his own unique take on Future‘s “Codeine Crazy“, first premiered live during his set this past weekend. The timing couldn’t be more perfect, coinciding with the release of Future’s DS2 album, while also following the release of Vic’s recent collaboration with Skrillex, titled “No Chill“.

This isn’t your typical rap cover where you’d expect an artist to slap a new coat of paint on a rehashed beat and simply call it a “freestyle.” Instead, we find Vic channeling his inner rockstar as he opens up about the struggles of flying too close to the sun (a la Icarus) on his rise to stardom and how he copes with the new pressures. The angsty, guitar driven backdrop sets the stage perfectly for Vic to experiment in a way like never before, while also allowing longtime collaborators Stefan Ponce and Papi Beatz to show off some of their range from a production standpoint as well.

Vic is currently preparing to release his Roc Nation debut, Traffic, sometime later this year. The album already boasts features from heavyweights like Kanye West and Skrillex, though remaining details seem to be sparse at this point. Be on the lookout for the talented emcee in your city as he embarks on his Traffic Tour to close out the summer.

[Hip-Hop] Vic Mensa – U Mad (Feat. Kanye West) (Prod. Smoko Ono)

U Mad feat. Kanye West

U Mad? Cam’ron would be very proud of this brand new cut starring Vic Mensa and Kanye West. Produced by Smoko Ono, this hard hitting number serves as a nice follow-up to Vic’s performance earlier today at Coachella. It’s a great look for the Chitown native who previously collaborated with Yeezy on his own single, “Wolves.” A few years ago it may have been difficult to imagine a pairing like this, but now it seems like this move could launch Vic further into stardom.

Expect this one to stay on the radio late into the summer. We look forward to seeing what else the emcee has in store for his upcoming EP Street Lights, dropping sometime this year.

Towkio
Involved Ft. Vic Mensa (Prod. Kaytranada)

Just in time for your Friday turn up, SaveMoney’s very own Towkio has released a funky new tune that’ll give you the irresistible urge to boogie the night away. Getting the dynamic duo of Vic Mensa and Kaytranada “Involved” on this one was a smart move, as the pair’s undeniable chemistry shines through once again. The Chitown natives exchange sleek raps atop a retro fueled instrumental with plenty of bounce, provided by Kaytra himself. At this point it’s pretty clear that these guys can do no wrong, which means fans should be rushing to listen to anything these two are “Involved” in. Check out the song above, and be on the lookout for Towkio’s .wav Theory, set to drop this April.

[NEW] Kaytranada – Drive Me Crazy (Feat. Vic Mensa)

KAYTRANADA
Drive Me Crazy (featuring Vic Mensa)

After teasing the release of a new collaboration with Vic Mensa last night, super producer Kaytranada came through on his promise, dropping the heavily anticipated “Drive Me Crazy,” featuring the eclectic Chitown spitter. Drawing the listener in with some spastic bars, the song soon gives way to a melodic interlude, as Vic smoothly transitions into some soothing vocals, allowing the shimmering, revolving instrumental to truly breathe.

“Drive Me Crazy” is the second single from Kaytranada’s forthcoming LP on XL Recordings, set to drop later this year. We’d love to see a joint project from the pair at some point in the future, but for now listen to the tune above, and make sure to grab yourself a copy ASAP.

Wimme Nah (Prod. By Kaytranada)

Still riding off the highs of an insane set at Lollapalooza last weekend, Vic Mensa took to Twitter yesterday to urge his followers to use the hashtag #WimmeNah to propel the release of his next single produced by Kaytranada. After generating enough buzz, the Chitown spitter stayed true to his word, unleashing the glorious single upon the world earlier today. After one listen it should be pretty clear that Vic is in his own lane at the moment, as he’s been soundtracking our summer with a solid repertoire of bangers that sound unlike anything else out right now. The track is oozing in Chicago pride, as Vic declares that the city’s “Wimme Nah,” and if his performance at Lolla proved anything, it’s that he’s right.

Check out the dope new cut above, and make sure to grab yourself a free download of the fresh track through Facebook.
