Whoa (Feat. Tyler, The Creator)
After dropping the much heralded “Chum” a few months ago, fans have been clamoring for Earl Sweatshirt‘s next release. For many, “Chum” seemed like a maturation in the young emcee’s thought process, as he tackled personal issues and struggles head on. Earl and crew are out to prove nothing’s changed though by dropping this brand new video for “Whoa.” As Tyler, The Creator alludes to in the beginning of the song, they’re out to revive their 2010 vibe, when people were first shocked by the video for “Earl.” This one isn’t quite as extreme, but it’s certainly peculiar.
It begins with Earl waking up in a run down trailer, and then donning a winter coat in nothing but his boxers, before heading outside to watch some 50-some year-old woman pirouetting around in a tutu. Yeah, it’s weird, but nothing out of the ordinary for Odd Future standards. “Whoa” comes with the trademarked laidback, yet sinister sound we’re used to from all Odd Future tracks. Earl shows off that sweet, complex rhyme scheme we’ve come to admire from him, while Tyler takes duties on the chorus. Earl’s upcoming album, Doris, doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s easily one of the most anticipated projects of the year.
